Waterbury's Holy Land Cross Comes Down

http://www.thisisct.net/images/holyland06.jpg

An I-84 icon in Waterbury will be torn down next month. The 50-foot tall iron cross that sits atop Pine Hill is being removed and replaced thanks to a $250,000 reconstruction effort. The cross is decades old and being replaced due to being weathered and suffering repeated attacks by vandals.

The cross has been described as one of Waterbury's two most important landmarks, along with the clock tower on the Republican-American building on Meadow Street.

I visited the site on January 4th 2004.

The full story can be seen here at the Republican-American.

Donations can be mailed to:
Holy Land Peace Cross,
