We All Scream For....

All this hot, hot, icky, sticky weather over the past week or so has got me thinking about ice cream. Cold, creamy, delicious. In a non-scientific poll I've surveyed the best places in Connecticut to get some of that cold sweet relief.

Dippin' Dots "The Ice Cream of the Future!" Try some delicious Orange (my favorite!), or try mixing different flavors together such as Rainbow Ice and Watermelon to see what you like best. It stays cold for a long time, and there's no messy spills involved. (Various locations in CT).

Cold Stone Creamery "this ice cream rocks and the world agrees" according to their website. I'm with them! They're famous for "smooshing" their ice cream with your choice of toppings, and they're not skimpy on portions either. I recently had a "small" Strawberry Shortcake (Vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, yellow cake, and strawberries smooshed together) and wow, it was so big I could hardly finish it. (But I did). (Various locations in CT).

AC Petersen Farms Fresh store made ice cream in an old-fashioned family atmosphere, sundaes topped with hand-whipped cream. Voted Best Family Dining in Hartford County. You can buy huge tubs, more like vats really, to take home with you. (West Hartford, CT).

Buttonwood Farm Farm Fresh Ice Cream, Yogurt, and sorbet made by the Button family since 1998. So many flavors that there is something for everyone here. Purple Cow anyone? (Griswold, CT).

PRALINE'S of MIDDLETOWN say they have "The Best Scoop in Town," and were voted Best Ice Cream Shop in a Hartford Advocate 2004 Readers Poll. (Middletown, CT).

I quote my two-year-old niece when I say "Nummeeeeee!" Where's your favorite place to go for ice cream?
