12th annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Each year the event that pays tribute to Dr. King's ideals and vision grows more popular and inspiring. This year’s keynote speaker is John C. Brittain, Chief Counsel & Senior Deputy Director for Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. Mr. Brittain is one of the lawyers who filed the landmark Sheff v. O’Neill school desegregation case in 1989. This lawsuit challenged the racial, economic, and educational segregation between Hartford and the surrounding school districts as a denial of a student’s fundamental right to an equal education under the Connecticut Constitution. Mr. Brittain was also a former University of Connecticut professor and has received many awards.
