Waterbury's Holyland Featured In Today's Hartford Courant

Ann Marie Somma of the Hartford Courant provides us with an update on Holy Land today. For most people, driving on I-84 in Waterbury (near the mall) a fly-by glimpse of the 56 foot tall lighted steel cross, is the only indication of the miniature monument. Ann Marie tells us all that's left of Holy Land is "rotting plywood, rusted chicken wire and overgrown brush, the victim of weather, wear and vandalism."
Lawyer John Greco built Holy Land in the 1970s for people who never would be able to go to the real Holy Land.
I was there myself in January 2004, and I was amazed because I've never seen anything like it. You can tell that it was once cared for, and that people have put a lot of work into building the replica village, that at one time, it must have been quite a sight to behold. Now it is a mere ghost town on a hill.

I've been up there several times recently. It's such a shame that it's just decaying. I wish Waterbury had taken care of this jewel on the hill.
I'm hoping someone will come forward, purchase the property and try to duplicate what John Baptist Greco created. I know if I had the money, I would do just that.
I think it would be a wonderful gift to the community.
