Gov's War on Billboards
Governor M. Jodi Rell announced last week that she has submitted legislation directing no new contracts for billboards on state-owned property be allowed, and existing contracts not renewed when they expire.
The legislation is designed to beautify the state’s highways. As someone who must do a heck of a lot of travel throughout Connecticut Governor Rell is in a good position to see the effect of the billboards throughout the state.
Some of them are definitely eyesores. Sometimes it seems that the more offensive they are, the more they stand out. What do you think? Are informational billboards a distraction to drivers? Strange, but I have noticed an awful lot of billboards across the state have the governor's picture on them promoting her Onething initiative.
